SCWR
386:
Producing Live Sketch Comedy
This course immerses students in the creative and technical process of developing, directing, and producing a half-hour live sketch comedy show, recorded in front of a studio audience. Students will collaborate to generate and refine original comedic material, cast performers, and oversee both live and pre-recorded segments, mirroring the iterative process of professional sketch productions. Emphasis is placed on ensemble-based direction, where students direct material written by their peers, fostering adaptability and creative trust. Through hands-on experience in both writing and production roles, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the directorial and technical challenges involved in creating sketch comedy for television.
