Jarvis Student Center for Innovation and Collaboration

CDM's Jarvis Student Center for Innovation and Collaboration is an 8,000 square-foot open space where students and faculty come together to ideate and innovate. The center focuses on multidisciplinary professional learning and industry partnerships fueled by emerging technologies and projects dedicated to societal needs and innovation.

Future filmmakers are flocking to Chicago, and DePaul University’s School of Cinematic Arts continues to rise in the rankings. The Hollywood Reporter has named DePaul one of the best film schools in the country, rising to 14th place, up one spot from last year.

“This is a testament to the excellence of our faculty and staff, our facilities, and most of all our alumni,” said Gary Novak, filmmaker and director of the School of Cinematic Arts.

Malaria, cigarette smoking and septic shock kill millions of people every year. In a fresh round of funding, DePaul University and Rosalind Franklin University of Science and Medicine are supporting faculty research projects that bring together artificial intelligence and biomedical discovery to address these health care challenges. The grants launch research among interdisciplinary teams, which include robotics experts, computer engineers, a biophysicist, a psychologist and an immunologist.

DePaul was named one of Graphic Design USA’s top design schools of 2024, a list which highlights schools and programs that prepare talented students for creative careers in the real world. The industry publication also named School of Design students Liam Guiritan and Magda Wilhelm “students to watch.”

Colleen Rafferty (BA Film & Television ‘09) is a native of St. Louis, Missouri who has been an editor in the Los Angeles area since graduating from DePaul’s School of Cinematic Arts. She has 14 years of experience editing both documentary and scripted television series. Her latest projects include editing the Percy Jackson and Olympians series on Disney+ and season 2 of FX/Hulu’s break out show The Old Man. Some of her other well-known credits include: The Man in the High Castle for Amazon Prime, Code Black for CBS, The Gifted for Fox/Marvel, and Naked and Afraid for Discovery Channel. An episode she co-edited on Naked and Afraid was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Editing. Colleen is a union member of IATSE and Local 700, The Editors Guild.

Risheek Komaravelli (MS Information Systems ‘24) used his time at DePaul to both enhance his academic studies and connect with peers who shared his interests. Risheek served as treasurer for CDM student organization DISSO (DePaul Information Systems Student Organization), which he says allowed him to develop his leadership and financial management skills while contributing to engaging events and initiatives for the student IS community. Risheek also held the position of Scrum Master at the DePaul ID Lab, where he collaborated with a team on real-world projects while applying the principles of agile development methodologies. “Working on rotational projects at the lab, needing different respective skillsets, made me perform better in classes,” says Risheek.

Chris Foster (BS Game Design ‘24) is a level designer for DePaul Originals Game Studio, where he’s currently working on the studio-produced game Haunted Jarvis, as well as the Epic Game Jam taking place this summer. He served as both the lead designer and producer on his capstone project, Tobi Through Time. Originally from Gary, Indiana, Chris has known since 7th grade that he wanted to attend DePaul and pursue his interest in game design. During his time at DePaul, Chris also worked as an RA for University Center (and was awarded Returning RA of the Year, Administrative Buddy of the Year, and MVP of My Small Staff) and as a lead desk receptionist at the Lincoln Park Campus. Chris plans to continue working in game/level design in Unreal Engine or UEFN after graduation.
