SCWR 250 Developing the Television Series
Summary
This course focuses on writing the sitcom and one-hour drama television formats. Students will examine the conventions of serialized and procedural series and will learn how the collaborative dynamic of the writer's room impacts story.The lectures and workshop provide a foundation of what it takes to be a professional staff writer and culminate in crafting a spec episode of a current television series.
PREREQUISITE(S): SCWR 100 or SCWR 101
Texts
All readings will be posted by the instructor on D2L.A subscription to various streaming platforms is useful for viewing, but not required as we will read all scripts for series analysis. Final Draft is strongly recommended for this course.
Grading
Grading Scale: A = 90%-100% plus/ minus = top/ bottom 3% of grade range; B = 80%-89%, C = 70%-79%, D = 60%-69%, F = 59% and below

separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation.
