CSEC 480 Cybersecurity Automation Operations

Summary
This hands-on course will introduce students to real world exercises and scenarios. Students will primarily create tools in Python to perform automation, monitoring, and industry best practices. Assignments and labs will be applied to topics such as operating systems, APIs, virtualization, sandboxing, python libraries, and web applications.
Grading
Homework will consist of research problems as well as coding labs.
Quizzes will be given in lieu of a Midterm (pending class approval). The topic will cover the lecture and homework from the weeks prior. Quizzes will only be provided on D2L.
Discussions will be assigned during certain weeks and are intended to be a forum to share your ideas with the class as well as gain insight into different ways of thinking. Discussions should be posted to D2L and responses to classmates’ posts are encouraged.
- Final (Take Home) 30 points
The final project will be cumulative and will challenge you to use your knowledge to create scripts to complete tasks in a hosted environment.
If you take and pass SANS GIAC Python Coder (GYPC) exam before week 11, you will receive 80 bonus points towards your final grade.

(CSC 242 or CSC 243 or CSC 401) and (CSEC 378 or CSC 374 or CSC 282 or CSEC 418)

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. Detailed feedback will enable the instructor to continuously tailor teaching methods and course
content to meet the learning goals of the course and the academic needs of the students. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The
evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely
separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation.
