SE 450 Object-Oriented Software Development
Summary
We will study object-oriented design and implementation. Among the topics of the course are:
Principles of object-oriented programming languages.
Principles of object-oriented design.
UML class, object and interaction diagrams.
Testing methodologies.
Design Patterns.
Advanced Java Techniques.

Grading
There will be weekly assignments culminating in a final project. The course grade will be computed as follows:
Homeworks: 60%
Exams: 40% ( 3 Timed quizzes on D2L. Instructor retains the privilege to randomly select students for examining their answers in an oral exaximation)
All exams will be cumulative.
There will be no make-up exams (except in extreme emergency) nor extra credit assignments.
All submissions need to be turned in as per requirements, and on prescribed time. No late submissions will be accepted. All assignments will count in the calculation of your final grade. Program submissions will be assessed on whether they achieve the set task and the quality of the code.
University policies on use of AI, and academic integrity in general, apply fully. Unless there are explicit waivers stated by the instructor.
Prerequisites
CSC 403 and Java programming experience. This is NOT an introductory Java course.
This syllabus is subject to change as necessary during the quarter. If a change occurs, it will be thoroughly addressed during class, posted under Announcements in D2L and sent via email.
Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. Detailed feedback will enable the instructor to continuously tailor teaching methods and course
content to meet the learning goals of the course and the academic needs of the students. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The
evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely
separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation.
