An award-winning experimental filmmaker with expertise in media and cinema studies, Chi Jang Yin's work investigates the gaps in history that are invisible to others. Yin’s expertise in experimental documentary, VR documentaries, Cinéma Vérité, and media literacy informs a diverse body of work that is recognized internationally in galleries, exhibitions, and film festivals. Yin holds an MFA and BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).
Yin’s films have been shown at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Germany; Uppsala Short Film Festival, Sweden; Chicago International Film Festival; Los Angeles Film Festival; European Media Arts Festival in Osnabrouck, Germany; Kasseler Dokumentar Film Festival, Germany; Asolo Art Film Festival, Italy; The Lazniz Centre for Contemporary Art, Poland; Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, Czech Republic; Toronto International Film Festival, Canada; Manchester Arts Centre, United Kingdom; The Contemporary Center of Art, Bulgaria; and IDFA International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her work was invited to the professional film market at Visions du Réel, Nyon in Switzerland.
Yin was a nominee for the Excellence in Teaching Award. Her recent research and teaching examine the cultural foundations of Nuclear Discourse and US Gun Violence, focusing on the use and misuse of media to shape bias and understanding.
