Bio and Research Information

Michael Phillips has 25+ years as a certified Information Security Professional and Thought Leader. Having served as the Chief Information Security Officer at a Private FCM, Assistant Vice President & Information Security Officer (ISO) of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Director of IT Security for the Americas at UBS (formerly Swiss Bank Corp.), he is also an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University where he teaches Systems Auditing & Information Security. He is a Founding Partner and Owner of several Information Security Consulting practices where he specializes as a Virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO). Michael was a pioneer in developing and offering services as a vCISO. The vCISO makes the most sense for businesses that cannot afford full-time, Executive level, information security expertise on staff to manage associated risks or regulatory matters and provide cybersecurity advisory services for Boards of Directors. Michael received his first Technology Degree from DeVry Institute of Technology, a Bachelor’s degree in Communications & Computer Sciences from Northwestern University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. An active member of InfraGard, High Tech Crime Consortium, Chicago Electronic Crimes Task Force, etc., Michael also holds many certifications including the C|CISO, CISSP, CISA, NSA IAM, ITIL, etc., He also serve as a Strategic Advisor for an early stage (Seed, Series A, and Series B) venture capital firm, OCA Ventures III, L.P. and the Advisory Board of the Illinois Digital Privacy Alliance.
