CSC 484: Ethics in Artificial Intelligence

This course examines a broad range of ethical issues we face in a future where AI becomes increasingly integrated into modern society. Topics include subjects like AI-generated fake news, ChatGPT and the future of education, implicit bias in AI systems, the balance between benefits to society vs. rights of the individual, the lack of explanations available when life-changing decisions have been made, self-driving cars, AI replacements for professions like judges and M.D.s, military autonomous killing machines, cyborg humans, artificial intimacy, the replication crisis when AI systems are proprietary, when it is UN-ethical NOT to use AI, and the ethical issues raised by the combined intelligence of brain-machine intelligent systems. This is a lecture / discussion survey course.
