CSEC 477 Governance Policies in Information Assurance
Summary
This graduate course is a survey of legal issues in information assurance that are global in nature. Students will gain an awareness and understanding of key laws, regulatory compliance requirements, and other legal issues impacting security professionals. Course topics include privacy risks and laws; IT security governance and policies; e-Discovery in the legal process; intellectual property laws; regulatory compliance; vendor contracts and assurance; and legal considerations in security breach incidence response.

Grading
The student’s final grade will be based on a weighted average of the homework, exam scores, and class participation. Weights are as follows:

Letter grades will be determined as follows:
92% - 100% A;
90% - 91% A-;
87% - 89% B+;
80% - 86% B;
77% - 79% B-;
70% - 76% C;
67% - 69% C-;
60% - 66% D;
0 % - 60% F.

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. Detailed feedback will enable the instructor to continuously tailor teaching methods and course

evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely
separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation.
