IS 422 System Design, Implementation, and Maintenance
Summary
Course focus is on both traditional and object oriented systems design. Specific topics include: database design, including logical and physical design; Entity-Relationship diagrams, class diagrams, form and report design; interface and dialogue design; design specifications, including structure charts and prototypes; designing for LANs and distributed systems, as well as the Internet; system implementation, including parallel and phased implementation, testing, documentation, and user training; system maintenance, including types of maintenance, controlling and coordinating maintenance requests, and configuration management.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of IS422, the students will be able to:
- Prepare a proposal and design specifications for a business application system
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of issues relevant to systems development
- Develop a database-driven prototype application system using Visual C#

evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely
separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation.
