The GAANN Program at CDM

DePaul’s Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education for the Graduate Assistantships in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program. This program provides fellowships to assist graduate students with excellent records who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the CDM PhD in Computer and Information Sciences program.

The GAANN program at CDM seeks to increase the size and diversity of the pool of traditionally underrepresented students pursuing advanced degrees in Computer Science and related fields. GAANN fellows, who are in good standing, receive five years of financial support while pursuing the PhD in Computer and Information Sciences.

GAANN Fellowship Program Highlights

A GAANN fellowship provides an annual stipend based on the student’s financial need as determined by federal guidelines to cover the annual cost of living. The fellowship also covers all tuition costs and fees for the PhD in Computer and Information Sciences program. Applicants should have a strong interest in pursuing careers in teaching and research at the university level. All GAANN fellows will receive additional training in teaching to become effective university professors.

Eligibility

GAANN fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis to outstanding applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria:

• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Admission to or full-time enrollment in the CDM PhD in Computer and Information Sciences program
• Be committed to a career in university teaching and/or research
• Excellent academic records
• Demonstrated financial need, as determined by federal guidelines (Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA)
